The doctor is in and out… in and out… – by Joey de Leon

Here’s the complete article from the man himself, starzan minus chita-e.. he he. Have a good laugh!

Nobel prize-winning pharmacologist Robert Furchgott, whose work with the gas nitric oxide helped develop the anti-impotency drug Viagra, died in Seattle at the age of 92. He “furchgott” to breathe? Nope. Basta NANIGAS na lang s’ya!

And speaking of tigas, ASTIG pa rin sa news hanggang ngayon and people are still talking about the “plight of KAT-HAY” — ooops, sounds like an airline service. No again. This one’s about the “secret service” which, accidentally or by some other reason, became open to public viewing which involved a doctor and a “doctored” celebrity.

The others in this “shooting incident” were not “doctored”, but they were definitely thoroughly checked up physically by the doctor. All the ladies underwent a complete “sexecutive” check up — including a triple X-ray!

Here is one doctor who is always in and out!

Better if we just call it HAY-KAT — at least tunog sapatos lang. KAT-HAY sounds “abattoirish” — parang slaughter. Could it be that for this doctor, slaughter is the best medicine?

But actually, this is how most men call these secret places in their macho lingo — KATAYAN—where they INTER-tain their lady guests — also their BEDquarters (pwede ring HEADquarters pala) or their ORIFICIAL residence! Ngek!

Here are the basic requirements of a simple but okey lang na Pokpok Arts Theater ( “theater” inasmuch as some of the performances are open to the public): Bed, air-con and refrigerator.

Other needs: Lots of towels, mouthwash, chewing gum and candies and of course, other toiletries.

Not so important things (pwedeng wala): Television and telephone.

This “aircontroversy” (ang dami kasing shots ng air-con sa sex video na pinag-uusapan) cut short the popularity in the news of the Pacman Flu and the alleged Martin Nievera Fluff in singing our National Anthem — the Department of Health’s failure to quarantine Team Pacquiao and the National Historical Institute’s order to quaran-TUNE Martin!

Aling Dionisia’s ballroom dancing was suddenly overshadowed by HAY-KAT dancing — with balls — in a room!

When asked if they learned a lesson from this recent sex video scandal, a young woman even furnished this writer with the following sure-fire tips for girls in case they encounter a doctor of medi-CINE — now you know why a doctor like Dr. No Pants loves to make movies — the word “medicine” ends with CINE.

One: If you finally decide to have sex with your boyfriend, just be sure you do it with the lights out.

Two: In case you are afraid of the dark, do a “Sadako” like in the horror movie The Ring. Let your hair down all the time. Para hindi kayo masyadong makilala.

And Three: Request your lover to call you by another name.

* * *

Basilio: Bakit ba sa Camara (House of Representatives/Congress) inilalapit ang kasong ito tungkol sa sex videos?

Crispin: Eh kasi, ang pinag-uusapan dito ay KAMA at CAMERA!

* * *

Kat: “Binaboy n’ya ako!”

Foreign Correspondent: Excuse me, please translate that in English.

Kat: “Ah… he SWINED me!”

* * *

The actress-victim’s name speaks and carries the message of what took place in that one-set shooting — HALI-HALILI SILA SA KATRE!

* * *

Doctor Zhivago: Si Doc ba talaga ang nasa video?

Doctor Kildare: KHO MISMO!

* * *

Padre Salvi: Manny Pacman is the Pound for Pound King.

Padre Damaso: Hayden F…man is the Pound NANG Pound King.

* * *

A great deal of those who watched the sex videos of the “Medical Director” find the acts swift and short; medyo bitin daw sila. Doctor Do Little?

* * *

Lap dancing is now outmoded. After the coming out of these HAY-KAT videos, a new dance craze was introduced — LAPTOP DANCING!

* * *

Said one indie movie supporter, “Nawalan ng ingay ang pagbabalik ni Brillante Mendoza, ang nanalong director sa Cannes Film Festival sa France sa pelikulang Kinatay — tinalo kasi ng ingay ng KAT-HAY.”

* * *

Hoy! Tigilan n’yo muna ‘yang mga sex videos. Manuod muna kayo ng Joey’s Quicky, este Quirky pala… World before S.O.P on GMA 7. And Wow, Mali tonight at 6 p.m. on TV5.

May the force be video.

Miley Cyrus & Justin Gaston Call It Quits

A happy Miley Cyrus steps out in LA with boyfriend Justin Gaston

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Miley Cyrus has reportedly broken up with boyfriend Justin Gaston, according to E! News. The 16-year-old pop star and the 20-year-old model had been dating for nearly nine months.

The “Hannah Montana” star reportedly called things off last week, as she was preparing to head to Georgia to film her new movie, “The Last Song.” A source also confirmed the split to Us Weekly.

“They have been having trouble for a while,” the source told Us Weekly. “It’s been hard for a long time since Miley has been working so much and traveling a lot.” However, distance may not have been the only factor behind the breakup. Miley has recently been spending time with her ex, Nick Jonas, which a friend of Justin’s said put some strain on the relationship.

“She obviously has been hanging out with Nick again a lot and Justin was cool with it at first – as long as it was just a cool friendly thing,” a friend of Justin’s told E! News. “She didn’t cheat, but I guess Nick was trying to get her back the whole time.” Over the weekend, Miley hit up her Twitter page to Tweet about spending time with Nick. “i’m in a dark theater ‘writing’ a song with nick j who is rockin a faded egg plant [sic] shirt!” she wrote. In a new interview with teen magazine Twist, Nick confirmed a duet with his ex-girlfriend on the Jonas Brother’s new song, “Before The Storm.”

“There’s two versions of the song basically, one that was written just for our record that we sang originally. And then I played it for Miley and we realized that if we just changed the lyrics a bit, we could make it more of our story, kind of share that side of us, and it could be great. So, we did,” Nick told Twist. “She came in and she and I sat down at the piano and just worked on lyrics a bit, tweaked it up, and it turned out great!”

Since leaving for Georgia, Miley has posted several Tweets referencing the distance between herself and her loved ones. “why does saying good-bye hurt so much?” she wrote on June 7.

“I’m just to [sic] far from where you are, i wanna go home.”

Edison Chen breaks silence on sex scandal

Edison Chen

Edison Chen

HONG KONG : He has retreated from showbiz, dealt with death threats and now disgraced pop idol Edison Chen who has been embroiled in Asia’s biggest sex scandal, is ready to reveal his side of the story.

The star who reportedly returned to Hong Kong about two weeks ago to settle some business matters – his father had recently declared bankruptcy – revealed in an interview with CNN’s Talk Asia that like the other female celebrities involved in the scandal, he too was a victim.

“I believed I was a victim. I believed that I was hurt by this a lot,” he told CNN. “I knew that I had nothing to do with the spreading of these photos.”

Cecilia Cheung

Cecilia Cheung

The lewd pictures which he said were taken with women’s full consent, showed Chen in compromising positions with at least half a dozen women, including Canto-pop star Gillian Chung, actress Cecilia Cheung and former actress Bobo Chan.

Chen told CNN he was terrified when the scandal broke in February last year. “I was afraid to go anywhere. I was traveling around when I was still in Hong Kong in trunks of taxis, literally, just to get to places,” he said.

Gillian Chung

Gillian Chung

“I had to be in the trunk for 15 minutes. I didn’t even know if I had enough oxygen to be honest with you.”

“Even when I had left Asia and I had went to Canada and America, it took me three months to really get out of the shell that I had put myself in. I mean, I was in darkness for five days,” he added.

“I had my drapes closed and I didn’t even want to go anywhere.”

The photos became an Internet sensation when they were stolen from Chen’s laptop when he sent it in for repairs in 2006 and circulated online, forcing the 29-year-old into early retirement and sending him fleeing to his childhood home of Canada.

Like Chen, some of the starlets have endured similar public disgrace and their careers have been ruined.

Bobo Chan and Edison Chen

While Chen has apologized for any hurt or embarrassment caused soon after the photos surfaced last year, he has not spoken to any of the girls identified in the photos since the scandal broke.

“Initially it was because I couldn’t find them. Secondly, it was because I didn’t really know how to approach and really what to say to be honest with you,” Chen told CNN.

Cheung, wife of Hong Kong star Nicholas Tse, has publicly lashed out at the actor and accused him of being a hypocrite, saying the apology was all an act to “win the public’s forgiveness”.

In an interview with iCable in February 2009, Cheung said, “He has never apologized to us personally. He should at least have called us to say sorry if he genuinely admitted his mistake.”

“The photos are still circulating online. How can we live a healthy and happy life? How can we put ourselves back on our feet?” she added.

Responding to the accusations, Chen said, “I’m not trying to say that that justifies any wrong doing that she thinks I’ve done to her, but I hope that she can understand and I hope that she can forgive me either today or one day, and she’ll understand that I had my difficulties and I really, really never wished this to happen upon anyone and I still respect her.”

Hong Kong computer technician Sze Ho Chun who was found guilty of stealing, copying and distributing about 1,300 photos, has been sentenced to eight and a half months’ jail.

The Kho-Halili sex video has also reached the Middle East. Reports said DVDs there are already being sold in Al-Khobar in Saudi Arabia for 10 Saudi Riyals or P116.

Andrew Santos, an IT manager in Dammam, said the proliferation of the sex videos has brought international shame to Filipinos.

Halili files raps vs Belo et al. in sex video case

Dr. Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili

By Benjamin B. Pulta

Careless whisperer Actress Katrina Halili has charged cosmetic surgeon Dr. Vicky Belo and two other individuals in the complaint she filed in connection with spreading her sex video in the Internet.

Halili, with her lawyer Raymund Palad, went to the Department of Justice to formally file criminal charges against Belo, engineer Eric Johnston Chua and Dr. Mark Herbert “Bistek” Rosario for allegedly disseminating her sex video.

Dr. Vicky Belo of Belo Medical Group

Dr. Vicky Belo of Belo Medical Group

Belo is the former girlfriend of Halilli’s lover, Dr. Hayden Kho, who on Friday was slapped with charges of violation of Republic Act 9262 (violence against women and children) by the National Bureau of Investigation.

“I am including in my complaint everyone involved in uploading the (sex) videos,” she told reporters, adding that she suffered so much psychological distress, emotional anguish, public ridicule and humiliation due to the release of the sex video.

She further said that because of the release of the video, she lost projects and endorsement.

The actress took her oath before State Prosecutor Romeo Senson, who said that the complainant decided to include Belo, Chua and Rosario based on new evidence gathered in the wake of the NBI’s investigation.

Halili in tears during the Senate Inquiry

Halili in tears during the Senate Inquiry

Among these were the affidavits submitted to the NBI and admissions made on television interviews.

In his affidavit, Chua admitted that he had been instructed by Belo to copy the sex videos of Kho from his laptop.

Chua claimed that he could not have been the one who uploaded the video in the Internet because he had deleted it even before the sex video of Halili and Kho came out in the Internet.

He further said that he did not have the master copy of the video, and he gave that sole copy in the USB to Belo.

Halili’s counsel said that it was Chua who implicated Belo when she gave that instruction to copy and save the videos to a USB before deleting the videos in the laptop of Kho.

“So he has no copy at all and the master copy (hard drive) is in the hands of Belo,” said Palad.

The NBI earlier said it is not ruling out the possibility of including Dr. Vicki Belo as accessory to the complaint after businessman Eric Johnston Chua claimed in his affidavit that he gave the master copy (hard disc) of sex videos to Belo.

Meanwhile, the NBI said that it would coordinate with the US based Web site host, YouTube, to help open the log system that would unmask the person/persons behind the initial upload of the video.

Head Agent Palmer Mallari, executive officer of the NBI Anti-Fraud and Computer Crimes Division (AFCCD), said they have to heavily rely on the technical aspect of the case to unmask those behind the initial upload on the Internet.

Philippine swine flu cases climb to 46

MANILA, Philippines – The health secretary says swine flu cases in the Philippines have climbed to 46.

Francisco Duque says all the cases are mild, prompting authorities to set a shift in their strategy from containment to mitigation of the disease. The new tack will focus on early detection and treatment, with only high-risk patients hospitalized while the rest will be managed at home.

Duque says the 13 new cases confirmed Monday include eight Filipinos and five foreigners aged 12 to 63.

Among them are four more students from Manila’s De La Salle University, where three others _ including two Japanese _ were earlier infected, and an infection at East Asia University, also in the capital.

Bubonic Plague kills 1 in New Mexico, USA

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —  An 8-year-old New Mexico boy has died and his 10-year-old sister was hospitalized after both contracted bubonic plague, the first recorded human plague cases in the nation so far this year.

A child being infected by bubonic plague

A child being infected by bubonic plague

New Mexico health officials did not immediately say Thursday how the brother and sister contracted the infectious disease, but they are conducting an investigation at the family’s residence to determine if there is any risk to other people.

Plague is generally transmitted to humans through the bites of infected fleas, but also can be transmitted by direct contact with infected animals, including rodents, rabbits and pets.

Symptoms of the bubonic form of the plague in humans include fever, chills, headaches, vomiting, diarrhea and swollen lymph nodes in the groin, armpit or neck areas. Pneumonic plague, which is an infection of the lungs, can include severe cough, difficulty breathing and bloody sputum.

The Health Department, citing privacy concerns, would not release the name of the siblings or give a location for their home, other than saying it was in Santa Fe County. Spokeswoman Deborah Busemeyer said the boy died in the last couple of days but she declined to be more specific.

Fleas collected from the area are being sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for testing. Health workers also canvassed the neighborhood to tell other residents that plague had been confirmed in the area.

The CDC says an average of 10 to 15 persons contract the plague each year in the United States. Modern antibiotics are an effective treatment.

What is the BUBONIC PLAGUE?

The bacteria

The bacteria

Bubonic plague is the best known manifestation of the bacterial disease plague, caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis (formerly known as Pasteurella pestis). The term “bubonic plague” was often used synonymously for plague, but it does in fact refer specifically to an infection that enters through the skin and travels through the lymphatics, as is often seen in flea-borne infections. Bubonic plague kills about 50% of infected patients in 3–7 days without treatment, and is believed by many to be the Black Death that swept through Europe in the 1340s, killing millions.

Pathology and transmission

Bubonic plage bacteria under the microscope

Bubonic plage bacteria under the microscope

The bubonic plague is an infection of the lymphatic system, usually resulting from the bite of an infected flea. The fleas are often found on rodents, such as rats and mice, and seek out other prey when their rodent hosts die. Once established, bacteria rapidly spread to the lymph nodes and multiply. Yersinia pestis Bacilli can resist phagocytosis and even reproduce inside phagocytes and kill them. As the disease progresses, the lymph nodes can hemorrhage and become swollen and necrotic. Bubonic plague can progress to lethal septicemic plague in some cases. The plague is also known to spread to the lungs and become the disease known as the pneumonic plague.

Symptoms

The most famous symptom of bubonic plague is swollen lymph glands, called buboes. These are commonly found in the armpits, groin or neck. The bubonic plague was the first step of the ongoing plague. Two other forms of the plague, pneumonic and septicemic, resulted after a patient with the bubonic plague developed pneumonia or blood poisoning.

Other symptoms include spots on the skin that are red at first and then turn black, heavy breathing, continuous blood vomiting, aching limbs, coughing and terrible pain. The pain is usually caused by the actual decaying, or decomposing of the skin while the infected person is still alive.

History

The deadly disease has claimed nearly 200 million lives (although there is some debate as to whether all of the plagues attributed to it are in fact the same disease). There is mention of the plague in I Samuel 5 and 6, with the Philistines trying to remove it with an offering of gold tumors and gold mice to the Israelites. The first recorded epidemic ravaged the Byzantine Empire during the sixth century, and was named the Plague of Justinian after emperor Justinian I, who was infected but survived. The most infamous and devastating instance of the plague was the black death, which killed a quarter to half of the population of Europe. The Black Death is thought to have originated in the Gobi Desert. Carried by the fleas on rats, it spread along trade routes and reached the Crimea in 1346. In 1347 it spread to Constantinople and then Alexandria, killing thousands every day, and soon arrived in Western Europe.

Person infected by the plague

Person infected by the plague

The next few centuries were marked by several local outbreaks of lesser severity. The Great Plague of London, 1665–1666, was the last major outbreak of the bubonic plague in Europe. The plague resurfaced in the mid-18th century; like the Black Death, the Third Pandemic began in Central Asia. It spread worldwide, killing millions, into the early 20th century.

During the Second Sino-Japanese War, plague was used as a bacteriological weapon by the Imperial Japanese Army. These weapons were provided by Shirō Ishii‘s units and used in experiments on humans before being used on the field. For example, in 1940, the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service bombed Ningbo with fleas carrying the bubonic plague. During the Khabarovsk War Crime Trials the accused, such as Major General Kiyashi Kawashima, testified that, in 1941, some 40 members of Unit 731 air-dropped plague-contaminated fleas on Changde. These operations caused epidemic plague outbreaks.

Treatment

In modern times, several classes of antibiotics are effective in treating bubonic plague. These include the aminoglycosides streptomycin and gentamicin, the tetracyclines tetracycline and doxycycline and the fluoroquinolone ciprofloxacin. Patients with plague in the modern era usually recover completely with prompt diagnosis and treatment.

Energy Drink – Are they healthy?

Red Bull energy drink

Red Bull energy drink

What are Energy Drinks?

Energy drinks are canned or bottled beverages sold in convenience stores, grocery stores, and bars and nightclubs (in mixed drinks). Most energy drinks are carbonated drinks that contain large amounts of caffeine and sugar with additional ingredients, such as B vitamins, amino acids (e.g. taurine), and herbal stimulants such as guarana.

Energy drinks are marketed primarily to people between the ages of 18 and 30 as a stimulant, which is why energy drinks have names that convey strength, power, and speed, and sexuality, such as:

  • Red Bull Energy Drink
  • Monster Energy Drink
  • Full Throttle Energy Drink
  • Amp Energy Drink
  • XS Energy Drink
  • Redline Energy Drink
  • Rock Star Energy Drink
  • Spark Energy Drink

History of Energy Drinks

Although sales of energy drinks in the United States were $3.5 billion in 2005, according to Beverage Digest, the category was only recently created with the launch of the Red Bull Energy Drink.

Red Bull was created by Dietrich Mateschitz, an Austrian who adapted the energy drink from a Thai beverage called Krating Daeng, a popular drink with rickshaw drivers in Thailand. The key ingredient in the Thai energy drink was taurine, an amino acid that was first discovered in bulls (this association is responsible for the Red Bull urban legend that the drink’s active ingredient is bull urine or semen). Red Bull was introduced to Europe in 1987 and to the United States in 1997.

Energy Drinks Contain Caffeine

Red Bull, one of the most popular energy drinks, contains nearly 80 mg of caffeine per can, about the same amount of caffeine as a cup of brewed coffee and twice the caffeine as a cup of tea. Other energy drinks contain several times this amount. The amount of caffeine in an energy drink isn’t always indicated on the label, so it is difficult to gauge how much one is consuming.

Another problem with energy drinks is that unlike hot coffee or tea, which is sipped slowly, it’s common for typical energy drink consumers to drink large amounts quickly.

Some people are sensitive to caffeine and experience anxiety, palpitations, irritability, difficulty sleeping, and indigestion with relatively small amounts. People with heart conditions should avoid large amounts of caffeine, because it is a stimulant.

The Combination of Ingredients in Energy Drinks Has Not Been Studied

One of the biggest concerns is that we just don’t know enough about the effect of the combination of ingredients in energy drinks. Many ingredients are believed to work synergistically with caffeine to boost its stimulant power.

For instance, one can of Red Bull contains 1000 mg of taurine. A German double-blind study compared a taurine and caffeine drink, a caffeine-only drink, and a placebo drink. Stroke volume–the volume of blood ejected with each beat of the heart–was increased only in the group taking the taurine-and-caffeine drink. Taurine appears to play an important role in muscle contraction (especially in the heart) and the nervous system.

Red Bull also contains 600 mg of glucuronolactone, a substance that is naturally found in the body. There is a lack of published information on the health effects of glucuronolactone supplementation in humans or on the safety of this combination.

Energy drinks contain sugar (although sugar-free energy drinks are now available), because it is a quick source of energy.

B vitamins are sometimes added to energy drinks in small amounts. It makes energy drinks appear healthy, although they probably contribute little. B vitamins are needed to convert food into energy.

Some energy drinks contain guarana, a South American herb that is an additional source of caffeine.

Energy Drinks Should Not Be Mixed With Alcohol

Red Bull and vodka has become a popular mixed drink at bars because it has a reputation for reducing the depressant effects of alcohol (e.g. fatigue) while enhancing the “feel good” buzz. But while people may not feel impaired, their blood alcohol concentration is still high. People may consume larger amounts of alcohol as a result.

A study compared the effects of alcohol alone to an alcohol plus energy drink combination. Researchers found that the alcohol plus energy drink significantly reduced subjective alcohol-related symptoms such as headache, weakness, dry mouth, and impairment of motor coordination, even though breath alcohol concentration and objective tests of motor coordination and reaction time didn’t reflect this.

The caffeine in energy drinks is also dehydrating, which may slow the body’s ability to metabolize alcohol.

Energy Drinks Should Not Be Consumed During Exercise

Energy drinks should not be confused with sports drinks such as Gatorade, which are consumed to help people stay hydrated during exercise. Sports drinks also provide carbohydrates in the form of sugar and electrolytes that may be lost through perspiration.

The caffeine in energy drinks acts as a diuretic and promotes dehydration.

A California high school was the first to ban energy drinks after two students experienced dizziness and disorientation after drinking an energy drink before football practice.
